HOUSE
FOR SALE was shot in the spring of '92 in Ashland, Oregon, where Director
Mike Prosser and Cinematographer
Jeff Yarnall attended their senior
year of college. The house in question is a shoe-box-like, 3-bedroom bungalow
in which the two dwelled in at the time.
This 10-minute short was not only their first foray into filmmaking together, but stands as a constant reminder of the squalor they endured through their college years. HOUSE FOR SALE went on to be a part of The Cracked Lens festival in Portland, Oregon, and then returned in the same festival's "Best of…" presentation. The film utilized the latest technology Mike and Jeff could afford at the time… a crappy VHS camcorder, and features the dazzling use of a diffusion filter made of a CD case sprayed lightly with Aqua-Net to diffuse the image and give it a more "film-like" look. It instead gives it a spectacular effect that we at Playground Films have come to refer as CRAP-O-VISION, giving the illusion of a really dirty lens. The short also incorporates the talents Jim Smith as the geeky potential buyer of the home and SESAME STREET's Luis, actor Emilio Delgado (see Gimp's Celebrity Vacation Photos for Playground's visit with Luis, Baby Bear, and the infamous Ernie at 123 Sesame Street).
